Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a terrace canopy, garden room, conservatory and veranda?

A terrace canopy and a veranda are two words implying the same thing; An extension to a house covering an outside area. Or a roof supported by two posts, made of aluminium or wood and polycarbonate or glass roofing.

A garden rooms refers to an 'uninsulated' house extension in the shape of a terrace canopy or veranda equipped with (glass) (sliding) doors so that the area can be fully closed. Architecturally, a garden room is not part of the house.

A garden room looks like a conservatory, but the main differences is that a conservatory refers to an insulated extension of the house. So this is an actual part of a house, making it more expensive and complicated to buy and install a conservatory.

With its product range, Access Garden Rooms specializes entirely on terrace canopies, verandas and garden rooms.

What are the benefits of an aluminium veranda?

A veranda allows you to create a covered outside area. In addition to being a beautiful addition to your house, it also allows you to find shelter from the sun, or to sit outside in rainy or cold weather. In addition, it also allows you to better protect your garden furniture against weather influences.

Why choose an aluminium veranda? Below, you'll find a brief list of the benefits of aluminium:

  • Aluminium veranda's are generally cheaper than veranda's made from different materials
  • An aluminium veranda offers a strong construction that will last for many years
  • Aluminium requires little maintenance. It is a metal that doesn't corrode or rot like timber.
  • Aluminium veranda’s have a longer lifespan, meaning that you just have to invest once, and can enjoy the veranda for many years, without having to  replace it..

What kind of maintenance is required on a veranda?

A terrace canopy requires little maintenance. We do recommend however to clean the veranda about twice a year. In addition to the fact that your veranda looks better without dirt, it also increases the lifespan of the veranda.

When cleaning your veranda, we recommend using a sponge or a soft cloth. You can easily clean the aluminium frame with water and a neutral soap.

The polycarbonate roofing can be cleaned in the same way, but be extra careful. Don't forget to frequently keep the gutter free from leaves and dirt to prevent the water drain from getting clogged.

What is the warranty on our systems?

Our products are made from high quality materials with a long lifespan. We offer a standard 5-year warranty on all our aluminium verandas.

Can I also add glass walls to my veranda in the future?

Adding a glass door system to an existing canopy at a later moment is no problem at all. Please contact us for further information.

Dormer Loft Conversions

The most popular style of Loft Conversion, the Dormer is an extension that projects vertically from the existing roof to provide increased internal height and space.

Hip to Gable Loft Conversions

A Hip to Gable dormer extends the hip of your existing roof into a Gable end, creating a vertical wall. Popular in semi-detached and end terrace houses, this solution offers substantial internal space.

Mansard Loft Conversions

Best suited to terraced houses, the Mansard style extends the roof at an angle, and is often combined with Dormers. This solution generally offers the most height of the roof conversion styles.

Velux Loft Conversions

Typically the most affordable loft conversion, planning permission is not usually needed with a Velux conversion. If you have the roof height available, this offers the quickest conversion process.

A Rooflight conversion doesn't require any external structural alterations, instead adding Velux windows and reinforcing your loft floor to provide a new living space. This more affordable option requires over 2m of height in the middle of the room.
